Printing and Pressing Instructions |
Important recommendations when decorating
Vapor Apparel garments!
Standard pressing temperature is 200 C and the dwell time, 45-60
seconds
- light to medium heat press pressure.
1. Use a lint roller on all textile surfaces to minimize
contamination - if you don't, you may notice small dark spots or tiny threads on
your garment or mouse pad after it was pressed. It's dust or loose fabric
particles that are invisible before pressing but as soon as they touch your
transfer and get pressed they show up like a sore thumb. Also, the dye from the
decoration may bleed where you don't want it to be.
2. Always use a Teflon sheet to protect your garment from
scorching and your platen from ink, they are easy to clean and if you look after
it it will last you for many years.
3. Use high release, light-weight transfer paper, approx
70-75g for fabric surfaces as it doesn't leave such an impression (paper lines).
For hard substrates it's not so important.
4. For fabrics - make sure your pressure is not too high to
avoid press lines - we recommend light to medium pressure for Vapor Apparel.
Sometimes it's better to increase your dwell time (pressing time) and minimise
the pressure to avoid these press lines. Got to be careful though - not enough
pressure may cause the ink to bleed or you may not get the image transferred
completely.
5. Your platen size will usually allow the shirt to hang
over the edge of your platen, you can minimise press lines by bevelling your
rubber mat around the edges, make them roundish.
6. If there is still a paper line left - re-press the
garment for another 5 seconds after you have removed your transfer, still using
the Teflon sheet. The fabric has a memory tendency to bounce back to its'
original texture.
7. Immediately after pressing, remove the garment from the
heat press and gently pull/tug from the edges of the garment whilst it's still
hot, fabric tends to pop back and reduces paper and press
lines.
8. To avoid paper lines altogether, ensure your transfer
paper is larger than your platen area - not so easy if you need to economise...
but it does work.
9. Washing a few times also helps remove any production
marks - "Please follow the care instructions" VERY
IMPORTANT!
10. Always allow your transfer to dry properly so you can
position it without smudging or ghosting. Important for hard substrates
too.
